Plan ahead for handwriting assessment

Writing Time Student Practice Books include written assessment tasks that are completed throughout the year. However, to fully assess a student’s handwriting ability, you also need to observe their handwriting technique.
Use the Observational Class Checklist at the start of the year to record if each student is:
- using correct posture
- using correct pencil grip
- forming letters correctly.
Throughout the year, continue to informally observe and correct handwriting technique, then revisit the Observational Class Checklist towards the end of the year to compare results.
